In addition to the pile burn in Lory State Park, the U.S. Forest Service will be doing some burning in the Red Feather area. Here is a list of areas where burning might be taking place:

Red Feather 4 (Red Feather Lakes area northwest of Goodell Corner)
Elkhorn (southwest of Red Feather Lakes near Bellaire Lake Campground)
Swampou (Red Feather Lakes area south of Bald Mountain Trailhead)
Red Feather 3 (east of Red Feather Lakes northeast of Dowdy Lake Campground)
Magic Sky (appx. 4 1/2 miles southeast of Red Feather Lakes on south side of County Road 74E)

These piles are only ignited under certain conditions, including favorable smoke dispersal and adequate snow cover. The areas are monitored after burning is completed. When and where burning occurs depends on the conditions listed above. Public and firefighter safety is always the number one priority in burning operations.

Prescribed fire smoke may affect your health. For more information see https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/wood-smoke-and-health

A special thanks to Loveland Fire Rescue Authority for loaning us their ladder truck while ours is receiving service. If you happen to see this truck around town it’s for that reason. It’s still your trusted PFA members that are providing you with your emergency service needs, they just happen to be temporarily using a Loveland fire truck. From time to time fire departments will loan each other apparatus based on circumstantial needs. This is another great example of the camaraderie among all emergency service personnel. (JJG)
