On Saturday, February 3rd at 6:11 pm PFA crews responded to a report of a structure fire located at 2631 Dunbar Avenue. BU-1 and E4 were the first to arrive on scene at 6:15 pm and found the home heavily involved in fire. BU-1 contacted 3 of the occupants and instructed them to evacuate. E4 had water on the fire at 6:17 pm and the fire was knocked down at 6:24 pm. Other crews on scene performed search and were able to locate and rescue a cat inside the residence. The occupants were home at the time of the incident and all of them were able to evacuate uninjured. There were no other injuries however the house sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. PFA’s CART (Community Assistance Response Team) assisted the occupants with making accommodations while the home and their belongings are salvaged. Fort Collins Police Services made a substantial contribution to the success of the incident by controlling traffic and bystanders in the area. The cause of the fire is due to the improper disposal of smoking materials. This incident is a good a reminder to never carelessly discard cigarettes or other smoking materials even during the winter months. Ashes and cigarette butts should be placed in a metal container with a lid a wet down after use. (JJG)

A special thanks to Loveland Fire Rescue Authority for loaning us their ladder truck while ours is receiving service. If you happen to see this truck around town it’s for that reason. It’s still your trusted PFA members that are providing you with your emergency service needs, they just happen to be temporarily using a Loveland fire truck. From time to time fire departments will loan each other apparatus based on circumstantial needs. This is another great example of the camaraderie among all emergency service personnel. (JJG)
